Advancing Our Mission Forward: YWCA Greater Lafayette is on the Move!
YWCA Greater Lafayette is dedicated to advancing our mission. This commitment is at the heart of everything we do. “Mission Forward” means honoring our legacy of service while evolving and strengthening our programs to meet the changing needs of our communities.
Women’s Wellness Program
Our Women’s Wellness Program provides lifesaving health screenings in 39 counties by connecting underinsured and uninsured individuals, addressing unique health challenges before, during, and after diagnosis. This includes offering free wigs and prostheses. Funding for this program helps us break down barriers to care and promote lifelong wellness for women across Greater Lafayette and Central Indiana. We are grateful to the Indiana Department of Health and the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust for making this work possible.
Mission Impact
Our Mission Impact work is a cornerstone of our vision to empower women and eliminate racism. We do this through our workforce development (STRIVE), access to workwear attire (Dress for Success), and racial & social justice initiatives to create a community where every woman feels seen, heard, and valued—no matter her background. Through educational workshops, advocacy, and strong community partnerships, we work to advance equity and justice for all. We appreciate the support of partners like Arconic and F.C. Tucker, who help us make a difference.
Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention
Our Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program is a lifeline for individuals and families who deserve to live free from violence—whether domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, or stalking. We provide free, wraparound support services, including case management, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, mobile advocacy, support groups, and education. These services are accessible, confidential, and free—thanks to grants and community support.
However, we are facing significant challenges. Federal grants, especially those from the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), are being reduced. VOCA is a crucial federal funding source that supports services for victims of crime. After efforts to restore VOCA funding through the 2025 state budget were unsuccessful, we anticipate a 60-80% reduction. We are working closely with our state coalition and other service providers to address this crisis.
Building a Movement: Our New Home
Despite these funding challenges, YWCA Greater Lafayette is taking the lead and empowering change. Our move to 624 N. 6th Street, the Dr. Kelley & Patricia Carr Advocacy Center, is more than a new address. It’s a bold step forward, allowing us to stay mission-focused and build a movement for equity, safety, and empowerment in our community.
Since 1929, YWCA Greater Lafayette has been a beacon of hope, support, and advocacy. We celebrate our legacy and honor the past by ensuring that our vital programs and services continue, no matter the challenges we face. Our new location is a testament to our resilience and unwavering commitment to empowering women, eliminating racism, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
