A PROCLAMATION

STAND AGAINST RACISM WEEK
YWCA GREATER LAFAYETTE
April 19-25, 2021

WHEREAS, Greater Lafayette including the cities of Lafayette and West Lafayette, Tippecanoe County and Greater Lafayette supports YWCA Greater Lafayette in celebration of Stand Against Racism; and

WHEREAS, YWCA Greater Lafayette’s mission is to eliminate racism and empower women through their important work in Domestic Violence, Women’s Wellness, Empowerment Services and Adult and Youth Programming; and

WHEREAS, Stand Against Racism is a signature annual campaign of YWCA Greater Lafayette to build community among those who work for racial justice and to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities. This campaign is one part of a larger strategy to fulfill their mission of eliminating racism; and

WHEREAS, structural racism plays a large role in determining the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live and age, and affects people’s access to quality housing, education, food, transportation, political power and other social determinants of health; and To that end, Racism is a Public Health Crisis is this year’s Stand Against Racism theme; and

WHEREAS, the 2021 theme of Stand Against Racism is RACISM IS A PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS; and

WHEREAS, we commend and stand with YWCA in its mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families and strengthen communities; and

WHEREAS, the leaders of Greater Lafayette take this opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to making our city a place where harassment, intimidation, discrimination and hate are not acceptable. We acknowledge that our community is strengthened by our growing diversity and the assurance that pathways that foster diversity, dignity, inclusion and respect remain clear and open.

NOW, THEREFORE, We, the collective leadership of Greater Lafayette, do hereby proclaim April 19-25, 2021, as STAND AGAINST RACISM WEEK in Greater Lafayette, and encourage all citizens to join us in striving to make our community vibrant, safe, prosperous and inclusive for all.
