YWCA Greater Lafayette was not involved in the early morning police-involved shooting that occurred in the back parking lot of the Tippecanoe County Health Department, located just to the north of our main building at 605 N. 6th Street and across the street from YWCA’s Advocacy Center.
The Advocacy Center was hit by stray bullets, but there was no one in the building at the time. Staff and residents at the YWCA’s emergency shelter were not affected in any way. YWCA President and CEO Allison Beggs and the Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program Senior Director, Shelter, Ericka Lee, went to the scene.
Lafayette Police officers assured Beggs that there was no ongoing danger to staff or clients. Police said the suspect was injured and was transported for medical care.
Police initially closed the 600 block of N. 6th Street to conduct their investigation, but the street is now open as the investigation continues.
