“State of the Opioid Epidemic: An Update”
Presented by Pat Harrington, Tippecanoe County Prosecutor.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, more than 115 people in the United States die every day after overdosing on opioids. Opioids, such as prescription pain relievers, heroin and synthetic opioids such as fentanyl are becoming more and more common, with NIDA citing a study showing a 70% increase in opioid overdoses in the Midwestern region from July 2016 through September 2017.
Pat will focus on the illegal drug activity effect on our community, impact on our judicial system, and an update on programs to respond to this public safety issue.
The luncheon will be held on Wednesday, December 12 from 11:30 – 1 pm at YWCA Greater Lafayette. Registration is $15 to attend if you register by phone or in person ($18 to register online), and includes the cost of lunch and the presentation. Lunch will be catered by Two Guys Catering & Bakery. If you would like to register by phone, please call YWCA Front Desk at 765-742-0075.
